I believe that all students deserve access to a high-quality education, and that all children hold talents, strengths, and passions that should be nurtured, valued, and supported. I believe that all children possess innate grit and resilience and a desire to do good. I believe that it is our role as educators to level the playing field and actively avoid perpetuating the disparities that disenfranchise and marginalize our children.
As a former science teacher and STEM advocate, I believe that all children are natural scientists, and that too often, schooling reduces children's natural curiosity about the world. I believe that science should be taught in a way that is true to the field. Science is about asking questions and actively exploring the world around us; science is not a collection of facts to be memorized. I believe that all teachers enter the profession with the same purpose: to help children succeed in life. I believe that as leaders, it is our job to advocate for systems and structures that allow educators to do what is in the best interests of students. I believe that our work is better done together, and that it is our responsibility to invite all voices to the table. |
