Equity, Diversity & Design
This course explored conceptions of equity and their implications for teaching, learning, and leading. After reflecting on own backgrounds and identities, we discussed and applied structural and pedagogical approaches to examine the High Tech High design principles against the backdrop of inequitable academic outcomes in American schools. Our final products describe concrete steps taken to address the essential questions for the course, and reflecting on the intersections between our own identity, student diversity, and school culture. Throughout this course, we articulated new understandings of equity and diversity as we interacted with the course readings and activities, and as we put theory to practice in our own professional contexts.
